Welcome to my website.
“Millions of Indian farmers carry no crop insurance. When monsoons fail, livestock die, or floods hit - there is no safety net. For most of his career, Dr Ajay Verma has been building that net.”
I work at the intersection of risk, rural livelihoods, and governance where insurance is not just a product, but a public good. I act as a bridge-builder between commercial insurance and social impact in India and global development contexts.
I am a Veterinarian by qualification, an insurance professional by practice, and a rural risk strategist by purpose. I am a system thinker. I have multi-system exposure: Academia, Government, Public sector and Private sector insurance, Development sector, Entrepreneurship and advisory roles.

I moved from conventional insurance roles to more specialized roles in building rural, agriculture and microinsurance from scratch. It was a shift in mindset, from urban-focused products and their administration to rural-focused, impact-oriented livelihoods.

My professional journey
Beyond The Mandate
Brief of my new book
India's rural insurance challenge is often described as one of low penetration. This book argues that the real problem is far deeper: rural risk remains under-designed, not underinsured.
In Beyond The Mandate, Dr Ajay Verma draws on nearly four decades of experience spanning insurance, veterinary science, governance, and rural ecosystems to present a fresh perspective on one of India's most important but least understood markets.
Moving beyond conventional discussions on financial inclusion, the book reframes rural insurance as national resilience infrastructure, critical for climate adaptation, livelihood protection, and long-term portfolio diversification.
Packed with real-world insights, governance frameworks such as R.I.D.E.™️, M.I.D.A.S.™️, and ECHO™️, and practical board-level tools, this book equips directors, insurers, reinsurers, NBFCs, cooperatives, and InsureTech leaders to govern rural risk more effectively.
For those shaping the future of insurance in India, this is not merely a book about rural markets. It is a playbook for building resilient, trusted, and sustainable risk systems.
